Linux Systems Engineer - Austin Texas based only

Employment Type: Full-Time. Austin Texas based

Required Travel: At least 2 - 4 times a year, some International travel will be required, travel to Austin-based server colo facility required daily as necessary.  Remote home-based employment otherwise.

Well-established technology organization is in need of a Linux Systems Administrator to join a development infrastructure team to work on bare-metal hardware bring-up, cloud deployments, enterprise hardware bringup, hardware maintenance, and production system administration. This role is intended to be a growth position where you’ll be pushed to grow your skills beyond your current skill set.  You must possess analytic and problem-solving skills that you will apply in support of both production and development environments.  You will need to be detail oriented, work effectively with a remote team, and disseminate large amounts of information while upholding critical systems operations.  We are looking for someone eager to understand the big picture and able visualize how we can create an integrated whole from many discrete systems and process.

Essential skills:

 * Strong experience with Linux (Ubuntu and AWS a plus)

 * Understanding of Continuous Integration Build Loops

 * Experience configuring and maintaining Open Source Applications

   including several of the following: Apache, Git, Gerrit, Django, Postgres and Jenkins

 * Support our application platforms in both production and non-production test environments.

 * Scripting/Coding to include several of the following: Python, Shell, Java and C

 * Understanding of security best practices

 * Excellent communication skills

 * Experience with Ansible or config management tools

 * Openstack administration knowledge

 * Network administration concepts


The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience working as a Linux Systems Administrator / Linux Engineer (installs, management, support, migrations, etc.).  Comfortable at a Bash Shell prompt: Ideal candidate will also be familiar with *nix debugging tools, both at the system (lsof, strace, tcpdump) and code level (gdb, pdb, etc.).
