Project Manager Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a self motivated experienced Project Manager to be part of Linaro’s Developer Services team. The individual must have project management experience in a software services  or development field coupled with strong customer facing skills and technical software knowledge related to open source and embedded systems. Communications is a key aspect of this role, the right candidate will be fluent in both English and Mandarin. Fluency in Japanese or other languages is considered an asset. The project manager plays a key role in supporting the engineering team to ensure timely delivery and managing the expectations of the project stakeholders.   This is done by working with the team to track deliverables, identify project risks and actively communicating the project status to all stakeholders.

Travel:  Linaro is a highly distributed company and international travel is required on occasion.  The Project Manager is expected to attend all Linaro Connect events. In addition, the Project Manager may be required to attend project kick-off meetings and development sprints.

 Location: Home office based in China, Taiwan, Japan or Korea


You will be responsible for facilitating communication, tracking team effort and project deliverables. In addition to coordinating with Linaro members/customers and the Linaro member account manager.

 Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Day to day operational tracking of projects according to PMO processes
  • Control, maintain and update project requirements using Linaro’s requirements management system (JIRA)
  • Draft, acquire approval and maintain project statement of work
  • Maintain ownership and content of a project portal for reporting and communication with internal/external stakeholders (Confluence)
  • Work with the team lead and product owners to maintain a backlog of work
  • Control project scope using change control process
  • Trigger escalation of issues when necessary
  • Track hardware and project documentation artifacts
  • Coordinate inter-team dependencies and communication
  • Keep management informed of the status of all assigned projects
  • Coordinate with Finance on time tracking, invoicing, billing etc.


Required skills and experience:

  • At least 8 years of direct project management experience in a software/hardware technology company
  • Excellent English and Mandarin communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience working in a customer facing environment with clients
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to work in a non-traditional work environment (work from home)
  • Knowledge and experience implementing and delivering projects using various development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc...)
  • Experience working and managing highly distributed teams to successful outcomes

Desired skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of Linux and the wider Open Source ecosystem
  • Exposure to embedded systems projects
  • PMP, CSM or PRINCE2 certification preferred
